Die Sons of Raphael veröffentlichen heute ihren neuen Song „Siren Music“ und das dazugehörige Video. Die Single ist Vorbote ihres anstehenden Debütalbums, das noch dieses Jahr über Because Music (Christine and the Queens, Justice, Metronomy) erscheinen wird. Wer in den letzten Monaten mit dem Treiben der beiden Brüder Loral und Ronnel Raphael in Berührung gekommen ist, der ahnt, wohin die Reise geht.
Das Video wurde von Loral gedreht und ist die zweite Zusammenarbeit der Band mit dem berühmten Kameramann Manuel Claro (Melancholia, The House that Jack Built), der schon das Video zu „A Nation of Bloodsuckers“ gedreht hatte. Die Choreographie von Tom Heyes ist eine wortwörtliche Darstellung des Liedtextes, etwa wenn Loral und Ronnel wie Marionetten fallen – „Magic carpets carry our souls, moonwards a city rises and falls’ – and culminates with them slumped stagnant on the ground, ‘nameless we lay dead on the floor“.
Zur Bedeutung des Clips erklärt Ronnel: “The video opens with a quote from an elegy in the book of Lamentations: ‘Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning’. It portrays the downfall of God’s people who have sinned and in turn have lost their honour, no longer bearing the gifts of God. The ‘Siren Music’ video echoes this gloomy picture of a nation in disgrace, lamenting the loss of God in our time, through the medium of dance.”
