Pretenders haben den brandneuen Song „I Think About You Daily“ veröffentlicht, für den der renommierte Komponist Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead, The Smile) die Streicherarrangements beisteuerte und das 12-köpfige Ensemble für die Aufnahme dirigierte.
Der Track ist der wunderschöne Abschlusssong von „Relentless“, dem kommenden neuen Studioalbum der Pretenders, das am 15. September 2023 (Achtung: neues VÖ-Datum!) über Parlophone erscheint.
Chrissie Hynde sagt über die Kollaboration mit Jonny: “I met Jonny a couple of times, and we’re obviously big fans of him because he’s done some incredible music over the years. I saw him at the Phantom Thread première where the film was running on screen with a live orchestra playing. And we spoke afterward and he expressed an interest in doing something one day. I was thrilled and very surprised. He also came down to see a Valve Bone Woe show we were doing in the basement of a Pizza Express. So when the idea of getting strings on ‘I Think About You Daily’, he was first choice. Legend!”
Jonny Greenwood kommentiert die Zusammenarbeit wie folgt: “It was a genuine honour to score strings for Chrissie. The arrangement wrote itself because of THAT voice. She’s one of the greatest singers in popular music, and her continuing passion for creation was an inspiring experience from first the email to the last note of the recording.”
„Relentless“ ist eine klar definierte Momentaufnahme dessen, wo Pretenders im Jahr 2023 stehen. Die erste Single „Let The Sun Come In“ wurde von der Sunday Times als “effortlessly brilliant” und von Louder als „dripping in laid-back attitude“ bezeichnet. BBC Radio 2 kürte den Track zur „Record of the Week“.
Aufgrund unvorhergesehener Produktionsverzögerungen wird „Relentless“ nun zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt, nämlich am 15. September 2023, veröffentlicht. Das Album kann hier auf rosa Vinyl, schwarzem Vinyl und CD vorbestellt werden.
Chrissie Hynde sagt über den Albumtitel: „I enjoy seeing the various meanings and origins of a word. And I liked the definition: “showing no abatement of intensity”. It’s the life of the artist. You never retire. You become relentless.“
Die 12 Tracks des Albums wurden von David Wrench in den Battery Studios im Westen Londons aufgenommen – mit dem, was Chrissie als „The Pretenders Collective“ bezeichnet. Neben Jonny Greenwood (Streicherarrangements) gehören zu dieser erweiterten Band James Walbourne (Gitarren), Kris Sonne (Schlagzeug), Chris Hill (Kontrabass), Dave Page (Bass) und Carwyn Ellis (Keyboards und Gitarren).
