Am 07. Juni erscheint das neue Album „KICKS“ von Rickie Lee Jones über ihr eigenes Label OSOD/Thirty Tigers (Vertrieb: Alive). Auf dieser Platte präsentiert die Musikerin ihre neuste Sammlung an Songs aus den 50er bis 70er Jahren. Mit einer Mischung aus Pop, Rock und Jazz präsentiert sie ihre einzigartige und anspruchsvolle Interpretation dieser Songs.
In den letzten zehn Jahren arbeitete sie mit Manager Ron Stone (u.a. Nirvana, Bonnie Raitt) zusammen und startete ein Crowdfunding, um das Projekt zu realisieren. Rickie Lee Jones ist eine der ganz großen Songwriterinnen. Auf „KICKS“ vereint sie Emotionen mit Songs wie „My Fathers Gun“ und Humor in Songs wie „Houston“. Die richtige Balance zwischen 70er-Rock und 50er-Jazz war für Jones kein Problem.
“It is all part of what I heard growing up”, sagt Jones. “The radio played everything! 1960’s AM radio was the primordial zone for our musical life today. As a kid I heard R&B, country, rock, and the most sophisticated singer-songwriters of the day forming their genre. Radio was a college education for a budding musician because these songs are all playing on my internal radio all the time, it’s not a stretch for me to put them together on an LP. Really, I just love to sing.”
„KICKS“ entstand in New Orleans, wurde mit lokalen Musikern entwickelt und von ihr und Bandkollege Mike Dillion produziert. Das Albumcover entwarf die Künstlerin Peregrine Honig. Zu erkennen ist eine Superheldin mit Boxhandschuhen.
“In times like these,” sagt Jones lächelnd, “a smile can be subversive. Here is Rickie Lee’s musical smile.”
