Nachdem William Fitzsimmons im letzten Jahr mit „Covers Vol. 1“ bereits ein Album mit Cover-Versionen von Tracks, die ihm besonders am Herzen liegen, veröffentlichte, meldet er sich nun mit einer neuen Cover-Version zurück.
Über „Vienna“ von Billy Joel“ sagt er:
„The Stranger by Billy Joel has been one of my favorite records since I first heard it during my high school years, on an old cassette tape in my friends basement, on a secondhand boom box. I had only recently picked up the guitar and was learning how to play simple songs, and something about the beautiful, but complicated melodies he used blew me away. Much of the subject matter was lost on me: what did a sheltered teenager know about big city life and tumultuous romantic relationships!
But his ability to transport you to far away places; back alleys in New York City or charming Italian restaurants, felt so attractive to my yet inexperienced mind. Years later I had the great joy of seeing him play many of those songs at Madison Square Garden and I felt like that young kid hearing it all for the first time again. I chose to cover Vienna because it’s a perfect union of melody and writing. It brings comfort and sweetness, but also longing and a lovely sense of movement. For many years it’s been a song that can always make me feel just a little bit better no matter what.“
