Alex Kapranos von Franz Ferdinand und seine reizende französische Kollegin Clara Luciani haben gemeinsam den Klassiker Summer Wine von Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood gecovert. Der auf Englisch und Französisch gesungene Titel wurde in Alex‘ Studio in Schottland aufgenommen und im Motorbass Studio des vor zwei Jahren verstorbenen Produzenten Philip Zdar in Paris abgemischt. Alex Kapranos erzählt über die Entstehung des Cover-Songs, dass Clara Luciani ihn im Oktober 2019 bat, den Song mit ihr auf einem ihrer Konzerte im Pariser Club Olympia zu singen.
„We are both big fans of Lee and Nancy, and enjoyed the interaction that the song allows you. Clara translated the chorus into French, and the performance is bilingual, which really suits the song.
When the lockdown started, we decided to record it – more for ourselves than anything else. We wanted to create the atmosphere of an imaginary world away from the confinement we were experiencing. Not that we were unhappy, but the imagination is the greatest medium for escape and adventure. It was recorded at my place in Scotland and mixed by our friends Antoine and Pierre at Motorbass studio in Paris. When we played it to our labels they suggested we release it, so here it is.
I loved performing with Clara – she has such a naturally beautiful voice and a fresh perspective. After the lockdown eased off, we got together to film the video with our friends Adrien, Leo, Fiona and Hugo. I love the ideas they had, which suit the mood of the song and reflect our… well, our love of Karaoke!“
Alex Kapranos ist Leadsänger der schottischen Band Franz Ferdinand, die seit ihrem selbstbetitelten Debüt im Jahr 2004 fünf Studioalben bei Domino Recordings veröffentlicht hat. Franz Ferdinand gewannen den Mercury-Preis, mehrere Brit Awards, einen Ivor Novello Award, erhielten MTV-Auszeichnungen, Grammy-Nominierungen und vieles mehr.
Clara Luciani veröffentlichte 2018 ihr umjubeltes Doppel-Platin verkauftes Debütalbum Sainte-Victoire und wurde 2019 mit dem Victoires De La Musique, dem französischen Äquivalent zu den Grammys und den Brit Awards, zur französischen Künstlerin des Jahres gewählt.
